Annual Services of Remembrance held in Cape Town and Vicinity

Memorial services are organized by various Veteran organizations, assisted by Regiments of the Reserve Force and the Reserve Force Office at the Castle. Should you wish to attend any one of them please call the SA Legion, Cape Town Branch office at 021 689 9771 for details.

The services are held to remember :

March Cadets of the South African Training Ship ‘General Botha’ (held at the Cadet Memorial, Heerengracht, City and arranged by THE S.A.T.S. General Botha Old Boys’ Association).
March Men who have served the Guns in all Wars. (Held at The Gun – The Gunners’ Memorial, Company’s Gardens -arranged by The Gunners’ Association and assisted by Cape Field Artillery and Cape Garrison Artillery).
April Yom Hashoah Ve-Hagevurah – the millions of Victims of the Holocaust, 1939-1945. (Arranged by the Jewish Board of Deputies and held at the - Pinelands No. 2 Cemetery).
May Jan Smuts Memorial Service. (Held at Riebeek West and organized by the MOTH Blaauwberg Cuca Shellhole and the Regiment Westelike Provinsie).
July The enormous loss of men in the 1st South African Infantry Brigade at Delville Wood in 1915. (Arranged by the MOTH assisted by the Cape Town Rifles (Dukes) and held at the Delville Wood Memorial, the Companys’ Gardens).
September The Battle of Square Hill, Palestine, World War One – a battle fought and won by men of the Cape Corps. (Organisation assisted by the SA Legion).

The Anniversary of the Battle of Britain – to remember all those who and those who did not live to fight again. (Organised by the Royal Air Forces Association and held at Simon’s Town).

October Those men who fell at El Alamein in 1942. (Arranged by the MOTH, assisted by the Cape Town Highlanders and held at the Castle, Cape Town).
November Cape Town Annual Service of Remembrance – In memory of all those who fell in defence of their country. (Organised by the City of Cape Town and held at the Cenotaph, Adderley Street, Cape Town).

Belville Annual War Commemoration Service. Organised by Bomb Alley Shellhole on Sunday nearest to 26 August at the Cenotaph Bellville Civic Centre.
Hermanus Annual Service of Remembrance. (Organised by the Hermanus Municipality in conjunction with Regiment Westelike Provinsie).
Paarl Annual Service of Remembrance. (Organised by the MOTH Komesho Shellhole).
Somerset West Annual Remembrance Service. (Organised by the local Council, the MOTH and the SA Legion and held in the Town Hall).
